Marion “Derby” Smith, 88

Marion “Derby” Smith, 88, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

He was born April 14, 1933, in Adair County, to the late Stanley and Myrtie Willis Smith.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Wesley Smith on November 29, 2007, one brother, Mason Smith and two sisters, Mary Frances “Shorty” Brockman, Jeanette Gross. 

Derby was a member and Deacon of Shiloh Christian Church, a life-long farmer, member of the Adair County Cattlemen’s Association, served on the FSA Board for many years and served as Magistrate on the Adair Fiscal Court.

His wife – Phyllis Reeves Smith of Columbia

One son and daughter-in-law – David and Julie Smith of Campbellsville

Two step-sons – Steven Dale Conover of Jamestown and Gary Cox Conover of Columbia

Two brothers – Marvin “Buck” Smith of Columbia and Maurice “Smitty” Smith of Tennessee

Three sisters – Sara Tupman of Brandenburg, Margie Dean Burton and Pat Bennett both of Louisville

Two grandchildren – Cody Dean Smith and Kyle David (Robin) Smith

Two great-grandchildren – Robby Kyle Smith and Kyler Adrian Smith

Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Funeral service – Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Martin, Bro. Terry Shelley and Bro. Randy Young officiating

Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery

Visitation after 10:00 A.M. Sunday
