James Ronald “Jiggs” Smith, 69, of the Portland community, died Sunday, May 17, 2020 at TJ Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.
He was born October 31, 1950, in Adair County, to the late James Robert and Jessie Ruth Pyles Smith, attended Pickett’s Chapel United Methodist Church and drove a truck for Coffey’s Trucking Company for over 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dianne Smith.
Survivors include; his wife Lelia May Stilts Smith of Portland; two daughters Stephanie Rene’ Dunbar and her husband Cary “Red” Dunbar of Greensburg and Kelli Katina Shepherd of Portland; three brothers and sisters in law Barry and Minnie Smith, Colby and Connie Smith, Jerry and Sandy Smith all of Columbia; one sister and brother in law Pam and Kenneth Montgomery of Columbia; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
The funeral service was held Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Pickett’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Bro. Cary Dunbar and Bro. Darrell Coffey officiating which may be viewed on his obituary at www.grissommartin.com
Burial in Tarter’s Chapel Cemetery
The family request that no flowers be sent, but would rather a donation be made in the form of Gideon Bibles, Tarter’s Chapel Cemetery Fund or Pickett’s Chapel Church Building Fund. These can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
