Barbara Bennett

Ms. Barbara Jean (McElroy) Davis Bennett, 81, of Louisville and formerly of Columbia and Fairdale returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 15, 2018.

Ms. Bennett was born in Adair County on June 12, 1937 to the late John Irvin McElroy and Lettie Belle (Rooks) McElroy. She was a member of Meade County General Baptist Church. She had a passion for reading; and her family was the most important part of her life.
Among those who preceded her in death include her grandson, Derek Michael Tate; her brother, Warner Lee McElroy; her stepmother, Miriam McElroy; her stepbrother, Curtis Pierce; and her brother- in- law, Merrille Noe.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved daughters, Regina Lynn (Davis) Tate (Michael) and Iva Gayle (McElroy) Rothman (Rickie); her grandchildren, Sarah (Tate) Vallentine (Stuart), Zachary Chase Rothman and Kenneth Blake Rothman; her siblings, Joyce (McElroy) Noe, Iva (McElroy) Cox, Wanda (McElroy) Terrell (Niram), Nelda (McElroy) Bratcher (Edward), Roger McElroy (Irlene) and Gary McElroy, her “Baby Boy”; her stepbrother, Steve Pierce (Jewel); and a host of other dear nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
The funeral service was held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm and on Wednesday from 9:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Kentucky Council of the Blind or Room to Read.
