Brooks Coomer, 95, of Columbia, Ky., died Friday, April 20, 2018, at 12:58 p.m. at the University Hospital in Louisville. He was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Adair County, to the late Cager and Sally Yarberry Coomer. Mr. Coomer was a member of Sparksville Baptist Church, serving in a number of roles and positions, a US Army Veteran of World War II, a Life Member of V.F.W. Post 6097 and a retired educator in Adair County after 35 years. He will be remembered best as Principal of Adair County High School from 1957-1969.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, Patsy Wilson, Carol Johnson and Dwight Coomer all of Columbia, Becky Mayfield of Columbus, Ind., Doug Coomer of Mt. Washington; a special great-niece and caregiver, Melissa Franklin of Columbia; several other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Sparksville Baptist Church with Bro. Darrell Landis officiating Burial was in SparksvilleBaptist Church Cemetery with full military honors presented by V.F.W. Post 6097. Casket Bearers: George Critz, Keith Young, James Turner, Mark Fudge, Joseph Silkowski, and Micah Harvey.
