The Adair County Middle School Academic Team came away as overall victors on January 30, 2021 by becoming the Governor’s Cup Regional Champions for Region 11. The competition was the head-to-head battle against District winners from across the Region, and winners at the Region event earned the right to advance to the Governor’s Cup State Championships. During the final standings at the awards ceremony, Adair stood as the overall winner in a very competitive Region 11.

The Quick Recall team battled through stiff competition in each round of matches, going undefeated on the day to earn the right to be crowned Regional Champs. The team members representing Quick Recall were Bailey Watts, Andrew Zinati, Joseph Kotter, Angelica Bell, Jay Burton, Samantha Oliver, Hannah Kotter, and Natalea Kaylor.

The Future Problem Solving team was also named Regional Champions of the FPS event as well. The team worked to complete the FPS process in tackling issues regarding Human Environmental Impact. The team now advances to the State Championship to confront the challenges of Personalized Medicine. Having both Quick Recall and FPS team events finish in 1st Place is a rare accomplishment at the Regional level across any corner of the state. The team members that competed for Adair in the Future Problem Solving event were Joseph Kotter, Hannah Kotter, Abigail Kemp, and Mia Schneider.

In the always challenging individual events, Bailey Watts and Andrew Zinati took home Top 5 honors in their respective events. Watts won 1st Place in the Arts and Humanities competition while also taking 2nd Place in the Language Arts event. Zinati also pulled off a rare double State qualification by placing 3rd in Science and 4th in Social Studies. Also noteworthy, brothers Trevir and Tristin Andrews represented the team with outstanding performances, just missing state qualification by one question and two questions respectively in a very competitive Mathematics event.

Competing schools in the Region were: Northern Middle School (Pulaski), Southern Middle School (Pulaski), Meece Middle School (Somerset City School District), Science Hill (Pulaski), Wayne County Middle, Russell County Middle, Casey County Middle, Somerset Christian, Green County Middle, Taylor County Middle, Clinton County Middle, Cumberland County Middle, Monroe County Middle, and Metcalfe County Middle.

The Governor’s Cup State Finals will be a virtual event this year, held on March 13-March 15.
