34th Annual Catch A Rainbow Kids Fishing Derby Postponed

It is with mixed feelings, I have made the decision, to POSTPONE, the 34th Annual Catch A Rainbow Kids Fishing Derby scheduled for June 6, 2020, at the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery.

Due to federal, state and local guidelines in place for COVID-19, and with the utmost consideration for the health and well being of the public, volunteers and staff, this is the safest decision for all.

It was very hard to postpone an event that has been going for 34 years and enjoyed by so many people. Catch A Rainbow typically has around 1,400 participants, ages 1-15. Including volunteers, parents, etc. the entire crowd is around 3,500. Participants attend from many communities across Kentucky, as well as many other states.

According to the governors plan to restart the economy, I don’t understand why this has to be postponed. If people can pack into a movie theatre or bar, beginning June 1, kids should be able to get outdoors and enjoy this event.
I introduced fishing to my nephews through this event when they were six years old. They graduated from UK last year and we never missed a year. Since then I’ve taken my daughter and this will be her last year to be able to participate. My grandson is 7 and this will be his 3rd year.
I understand the concern, but at some point, life has to go on.
    Traditions are dependent on it.

    Best regards,
