Columbia Police Receives $32K in Grant Money

The Columbia Police Department will soon be using new radio equipment after the department was approve for two grants totaling $32,203.
According to CPD Chief Mark Harris the first grant in the amount of $10,203 came through the Kentucky Homeland Security Office and will be used to purchase a new radio signal repeater.
The new repeater is an electronic device that receives a signal and then transmits that signal at a higher level so that the signal can cover longer distances with out degradation.
The second grant in the amount of $22,000 came from a Justice and Public Safety grant and will be used to purchase new radio equipment for the department as well.
"Once we finish all the paperwork we should have the new equipment sometime in January," said Chief Harris.
