A Green County man and two of his sons were killed and another son critically injured in a two-vehicle accident in Taylor County Saturday afternoon.
According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department, Robert E. Pierce, 30, of Greensburg, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. One of his sons, eight-year-old Dylan Pierce, was also pronounced dead at the scene, and another son, six-year-old Ethan Pierce, died at Taylor County Regional Hospital. A third son in the vehicle, 10-year-old Cody Pierce, was flown by AirEvac helicopter ambulance to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, where he was listed in critical condition.
According to the police report, the accident occurred at 12:26 p.m. EDT Saturday on Stoner Creek Road of KY 70. Robert Pierce, operating a 2002 Mitsubishi, was traveling east on Stoner Creek Road when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and hit an embankment, came back onto the roadway and struck a GMC pickup being operated by Gerald Gilpin then struck a tree.
The operator of the pickup, Gilpin, was not injured.
All occupants in both vehicles were wearing seat belts, and alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor.
The accident was investigated by Taylor County Deputy Sheriffs Robbie VanCleve and Brian Pickard.
Two injured in
accident near Knifley
A two-vehicle accident near Knifley Thursday morning resulted in one driver being flown to a Louisville hospital and the other driver taken to a local hospital for treatment.
According to the Adair County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 14 miles north of Columbia on KY 76.
A vehicle being operated by Jarred Vaughn, 19, was traveling west on KY 76 when he crossed the center line and struck a vehicle being operated by Logan Wilkerson of Knifley which was traveling east. The Vaughn vehicle then struck a tree.
Vaughn was transported by the Adair County EMS and was then airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital by AirEvac.
Wilkerson was transported by private vehicle to Westlake Regional Hospital for treatment.
The accident was investigated by Adair County Deputy Sheriff Tracy McCarol, with assistance from Sheriff Steve Cheatham. The Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
