GOVERNOR ERNIE FLETCHER had the honor of cutting the ribbon Thursday night during the dedication ceremony for the new Adair County Elementary School.

The Adair County Elementary School opened its doors Thursday night, welcoming in community for the much-anticipated open house and official ribbon cutting by Governor Ernie Fletcher.

After the ribbon was cut, Governor Fletcher spoke to the large crowd in attendance, and almost immediately addressed the question on everyone’s mind " when will work start on the bypass.

“The bypass will pass right outside of this building, creating a tremendous showcase for the school. In the spring of next year, you will see bulldozers working,” assured Fletcher.

The Governor went on to praise the Adair County School system and county/city government for all the work that went into acquiring funds for the new facility.

“This new building says this community is proud of its educational system. Where you put your money is where your heart is.”

“There’s nothing more exciting than seeing a new facility like this,” Fletcher continued. “It’s a beautiful place for the next generation to grow up. Columbia/Adair County is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.”

Mark Ryles, Director of Facilities for Kentucky Department of Education, explained that during Governor Fletcher’s term, every area of state government has been cut with the exception of base funding for primary education.

“There is $100 million in every budget cycle set aside to care for school needs, this year we added $50 million. Clearly Kentucky’s goal is to place all of our state’s children in the finest educational facilities.”

“The next best thing to seeing babies born, is seeing schools built,” ended Ryles.

Robbie Harmon, Principal of the ACES, testified to how the student’s have reacted to the new facility. “The kids come in and the first things they see are the bus in the lobby and the colorful hallways and their jaws just drop. I’m so thankful they allowed me to be principal of this school.”
