By Paul B. Hayes on January 28,2010

As the filing deadline for county, district and statewide offices passed Tuesday afternoon, the races for the May 18th primary elections have been set, and in some cases where there is no primary opposition, for the November general election.
Four more candidates filed for county offices on the final day, bringing the total number of candidates seeking countywide, magisterial and constable offices to 67.
No candidates for countywide offices filed Tuesday, but three candidates did file their papers to run for magistrate in various districts, along with one constable candidate.
Brandon White filed to seek the Democratic nomination for magistrate in District #2; Treva Downey Ballou filed for the Republican nomination for magistrate in District #5; and Jerry W. Robertson filed for the Democratic nomination for magistrate in District #6.
There will be either primary or general election races for all of the countywide offices with the exception of two. Unless an independent candidate files before Aug. 10, incumbent County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison will be re-elected to another term without opposition, as will County Surveyor Mike McKinney.
As expected, the races for the two county office in which the incumbents are not seek re-election, jailer and sheriff, drew the largest number of candidates. The race to see who will replace Jailer Willam "Bug" Knight drew six Republican candidates and one Democrat, while the race to see who will replace Sheriff Ralph Curry drew four Republicans and one Democrat.
In the races for the seven seats on the Adair County Fiscal Court, only District #4 magistrate Perry Reeder is without opposition in either the primary or general election.
In multi-county races of which Adair is a part, present 29th Judicial District District Judge Michael Loy is unopposed for a second term, and 51st District State Representative John "Bam" Carney is also facing no opposition.
Following is the list of candidates who are seeking local offices. Also listed are the candidates for District Judge in the 29th Judicial District, 51st District State Representative, First District U.S. Representative, and U.S. Senator.
The names of candidates who have no opposition in the May 18th primary races will not appear on the ballot.
