Officers from the Columbia Police Department, with assistance from other law enforcement agencies, are continuing their investigation into last Wednesday's armed robbery at the main branch of United Citizens Bank of Southern Kentucky, but have no concrete leads as of yet, according to CPD Chief Mark Harris.
The robber entered the bank's main branch on Jamestown Street just minutes after the bank opened at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday during a heavy rainstorm. Dressed in a hooded green rain jacket with a black mask or scarf covering his face, the white male approached a teller station with a gun drawn and demanded money. The teller gave the robber an undisclosed amount of cash, and he fled the bank.
"We're still running down leads, and checking out potential suspects," Chief Harris said. "We're shaking the trees, but at this point we don't have any concrete information.
Harris said they are looking at other bank robberies that have occurred recently in this part of the state to see if they might be connected, and officers have also been out of town running down leads.
"I've have one officer, Jimmy Luttrell, working on the case full time," he said. "We're going to continue to pursue every lead that comes in."
The robber is described as a white male approximately 5'9"-6'0" tall and weighing 200-220 pounds. In addition to the green hooded rain jacket, he was wearing blue pants and white athletic shoes.
Anyone that might have information about the robbery can contact the Columbia Police Department, the Adair County Sheriff's Office or the Kentucky State Police. Callers can remain anonymous.
